Brisbane Locations Ideas for your Wedding PhotographyWhere should we have our wedding photographs taken?

Brisbane Locations Ideas for your Wedding Photography

Living in Brisbane makes it so much fun when searching for locations to take wedding photographs. We are so spoilt for choice that it is super easy to find locations that will resonate with all different personality types.  There are a few locations in Brisbane that are popular to have wedding photographs taken and they will always be classics!  The Powerhouse, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Botanical Gardens, and New Farm Park to name a few.

In our first catch up together you may ask me “Where should we have our wedding photographs taken?” I love this question!  Especially if you feel a little adventurous and are happy for me to either find a place that is a little quirky or to come up with something that ultimately suits their personality.

There are a few questions I fire back that help me conjure up the perfect plan on how to best spend our time together. One way is to find out a little about you guys. How did you meet? Maybe this place has a special meaning to the two of you and would be great to incorporate into your wedding album?

Where do you guys like to hang on the weekends?  If it is local and close to where you are having your ceremony or reception it could a fantastic location for the two of you!

Are you beach or bush people? If you are both beach lovers and your ceremony is close to the ocean, let’s consider hanging there! And the same goes for fellow bush lovers!

Do you have a favorite drinking place? Some bars are open to the idea of having a few quick snaps inside their venues. And if you guys have great memories inside it could be great.  But don’t forget to ask permission from the bar manager.

And of course if you any suggestions or ideas. Some of you have some great thoughts on where we could go together.

All of these answers will help find places in and around Brisbane that can make great photographic backdrops for your wedding photographs. It can also help your images be that little bit different from others.

I also have a habit of wandering around this great city searching for cool spots that can be used for your wedding images!

Below are a few snaps from a few years ago at Suncorp Stadium. I am secretly hoping for a few sports fans to come along!  All that is needed to make these images epic is a cute married couple!

Music and Songs that couples have chosen to walk down the aisle

Being a music lover myself,  I would have a tough time trying to choose a song to walk down the aisle to.  I would want the tune to be epic and have real personal meaning to myself and partner.  Something that was unique to us as a couple and also something that really resonated with the celebration.  So the other night when I was listening to a great band at my local, the Cardigan bar I decided to ask a couple of my friends about the music that they chose to walk down the aisle to when they got married. Now I am not getting married anytime soon so don’t get too excited for me 😉

The three couples that I asked have been married for married for more than 4 years and all have a great love for music so I felt they were the perfect group to ask this question as I was super curious to know what song they had chosen to walk down the aisle to!

Chris and Abby have been Married for 9 years and have two incredibly awesome children! These two are absolutely more music mad than myself and Chris is always sharing his music knowledge and introducing new sounds to my ears. With this in mind, I was pretty keen to find out what tune Abby was walking toward Chris for their ceremony. They chose a Bic Runga song when I see you smile,  and such a sweet song it was!

The next lovely that I asked was Kym who coincidently was celebrating her 4th wedding anniversary! Kym and Hubby Dve had a really cool wedding that was infused with a rockabilly style with the couple and their support crew rocking amazing outfits to match the era of their style.  Kym loves Elvis so I was expecting the cool sounds of the king to be their choice although they decided to go with a Wild Horses cover by The Sundays. Such a cool tune! I can only imagine how incredible it would have been to watch glamour puss Kym walk to Dave on their wedding day!

And the third couple that I asked was mate Bondie. He has such a sweet love story to tell about his wife Nat! He knew the first time he saw her that she was the one for him! From memory, Bondie was completing a tilling job and Nat was the one that answered the door at the location of his job. He was hooked, line and sinker for Nat! This couple created two luscious children that would melt your heart and cheer you up on a cloudy day. They chose a James Morrison song, I won’t let you go.

Brisbane Wedding Photographer travels to Wellington

Photographing a wedding in Wellington is an exciting idea for anyone with a slight heartbeat for wedding photography!  Wellington is an incredible city in New Zealand. One that any Aussie could travel to and feel instantly welcome.  And for that reason, Wellington makes the perfect backdrop for any Australian Bride considering New Zealand for a city wedding!

With cafes, bars, and incredible restaurants any couple would be absolutely spoilt for choice if you were searching for a venue with character and style.  Wellington wedding photography is just as exciting as the choice of locations available for couples to use as image backdrops are endless.  Wellington wedding photography in my mind conjures up ideas including utilising its eclectic scene of buildings, unusual houses, stunning views, and my favorite great alleyways!  By using bright alleyways and graffiti in your wedding images, they will be full of color and loads of personality!

Traveling to this vibrant city was exciting not only to immerse myself in the surrounds but also because I was able to photograph something wedding related with fellow creatives!

This trip created an opportunity to connect with warm and friendly professionals from the Wellington wedding industry and it was such a great chance to learn more about how the Brides and Grooms in the area view their surrounds when it comes to wedding photography.

So armed with the best help on hand from local hair stylist Amber Hill and makeup artist Hannah Wiles we were ready to dress our model Lia Forrest in a gorgeous gown from When Freddie Met Lilly and start exploring this city landscape for the perfect setting for bridal inspired imagery.  Amber and Hanna live in the area and suggested an incredible alley no to far from the heart of the city!

We were lucky enough to visit a couple of locations that day, here is a quick view at some of the images and  there is are more to come!

Sunshine Coast Wedding PhotographerHow to choose the perfect beach location for your wedding photography

Beach locations for your wedding photographs

Moffat Beach Bride and Groom Sunshine Coast

One of the questions I often ask couples that are getting married on the Sunshine Coast when we meet to discuss their wedding photographs is “do you have any ideas on the locations that you would like to visit for your wedding photographs?”

This can be a hard question to answer, Why you ask?  Well, one of the reasons is  because there are a few different and diverse locations available.

I find that a good way to narrow down your ideas is to think about yourself in t he following way. “Am I a Beach Bride or am I a Hinterland Bride?”

Moffat Beach Bride Sunshine Coast Ocean

Often if your wedding venue and ceremony is on the Sunshine Coast couples choose the beach as it resonates with you. This could be a favorite beach that you frequent or one that you have grown up close to, and even your choice can be based on the simple notion that it is a beautiful location. The beaches on the Sunshine Coast certainly make a stunning backdrop for wedding photographs.

On the Sunshine Coast there so many beautiful beaches to choose from. Here are a few things to consider when deciding on the perfect beach location:

Is it busy around the time that you are planning your photographs? This can affect your photographs and possibly the editing of your images to eliminate bystanders in your background. The editing side of your images may attract an additional cost due to the extra time for your photographer to modify your images to suit. Something worth discussing beforehand with your photographer.

What is the level of the tide at that time? If you have your heart set on walking along the beach and the tide is up, this would mean that this particular beach location is not ideal. Maybe consider changing the timing of your photographs slightly so that you can get the perfect photographs for your wedding album.

Is the beach clean from rubbish and debris? Once again this can create unsightly distractions in your images and mean that there is additional editing involved before your beach shot is printed. We as photographers love the idea of you haveing a perfect location shot on your wall.

Is there a variety of locations at your chosen beach?  This is a great thing to keep in mind when discussing location with your photographer as there is potential to create different images for your wedding collection from the one location if there is a good range available at that particular Sunshine Coast beach. Consider the trees, the grass and possibly any buildings and structures that are nearby. It is great to awesome to have a few different ideas in mind for your wedding images.

Beautiful Wet Wedding at The Landing at DocksideZach and Charlotte

This romance began for Zach and Charlotte in their first few weeks of university where they were both studying to be physiotherapists. The two were more than a perfect match, Charlotte with her caring personality and gentle nature and Zach with his sense of humour and charm.  And it was not long after that there was a proposal for this cute Brisbane couple.

So with the date set and plans in place, they were scheduled for a beautiful wedding at  The Landing Dockside on the lawn with the company of family and close friends. Leading up to the wedding date there was a slight chance of rain, so Zach, Charlotte and myself got together and discussed options just in case it rained. And Boy did it rain!!!

On my way to Central Dockside Apartments where both Charlotte and Zach were getting ready I was a little worried that there was going to be trouble getting to them due to the heavy rain and water on the roads.  So after a road closure and a few small water crossings my little Barina made its way to a slightly flooded carpark next to the hotel where the two lovebirds were set to tie the knot.

Now knowing Zach and Charlotte a little from out time together during their engagement session I had a feeling that the two of them would be able to handle anything that came their way.  And sure enough with the help of the incredible team from The Landing Dockside and some quick styling changes from Grand Moments the ceremony location was moved from outdoors to in and this wedding was more than ready for these two to tie the knot.

Personal notes to the Bride from close family and gifts for the Bridesmaids, Charlotte and Zach’s magical rain wedding was set to be a beautiful day filled with love and laughter, even though it was raining outside.

With the Ceremony moved indoors and the arrival umbrellas prepped for opening, we were all set for an incredible day to celebrate the romance of these two beautiful people!

Zach had chosen a classic fit suit by Calvin Klien, and Charlotte, an in incredible gown by Jenifer Gifford Designs.

Makeup and hair from The Beauty Case and florals from Oopsa Daisy there was no doubt that the two of them were going to look more than perfect for each other!
